More diaspora talk

Been catching up on the buzz around the current protests from the Tamil community here and around the world. Seems that some prominent members of the Tamil diaspora were invited by the Sri Lankan Govt a few weeks ago to visit for talks and they were then taken to refugee camps and transit camps of their choice to see the real ground situation and talk to their people.

Interesting finds:

Diaspora calls on LTTE to release Tamil civilians

haha, the 'ISLAND' HAHAHAHA... what a joke

why didn't the govt announce who these "diaspora leaders" are? i bet they couldn't get 100 people to a demo.

this was the REAL diaspora conference - des browne, jesse jackson attended because they know where the real heart of the diaspora lies

In reply to War without Witness, the Govt did announce who the leaders were if you read the rest of the article. And why do you insinuate that there is a difference within the Tamil diaspora? Isn't that discriminating and belittling the efforts by these Tamil people to get an idea of the true situation? Or does it anger you that the visit is more of a reconciliatory action than what you promote?

How can anyone talk peace, or get nearer a solution that works for everyone if you are to divide actions by the Tamil people?

And how in the world will Des Browne and Jesse Jackson know more about the heart of the Tamil diaspora than other Tamil people? Get real.

Read the article by Nirmala Rajasingham on my blog further down - a real voice of the Tamil diaspora, ex-LTTE member and now activist. That in my opinion, is where the true heart of the Tamil diaspora lies. Without intimidation.

Tamil National - why again do you put down one side of the Tamil diaspora and support those who warrant more of a stubborn footing? The visiting diaspora to Sri Lanka at least made an effort to see the camps and enter into a dialogue that could benefit the very people you supposedly are trying to "save".

Do you personally know those Tamil diaspora visitors? Just because they engaged with the government, doesn't mean they are giving in. That is the kind of attitude we have to try and dispel in order to achieve a peaceful solution.

they mentioned 2 of the quislings, but what of the other 19 "leaders"

have you ever heard of the term "uncle tom" - google it. these are the tamil "uncle tom's" and history will judge them so.

i didn't say des browne and jesse jackson "knew the heart of the tamil people".

they just know who the majority of the tamil people support.

over 90% of the diaspora support the LTTE

and over 95% of those in the Northeast support the LTTE - (22 of 23 TNA MPs elected on a platform of the LTTE as the 'sole representatives')

because this 21 people do not represent anyone except themselves - they seek self aggrandizement and the scraps off of the table of the sinhala

leah, if you don't call for an unconditional ceasefire - then you are aiding and abetting the killing of civilians.

end of story

no matter what the LTTE does. they may (are according to you and the sinhalese govt) be the worst people EVER - NO MATTER.

if you advocate defeating them at ANY cost (ie the deaths of 5000 civilians so far and thousands more in the next few days)

THEN YOU ARE CULPABLE AND THE BLOODSTAINED PEACE THAT YOU ACHIEVE WILL BE DRENCHED IN THE BLOOD OF THESE INNOCENTS... i hope it it worth the cost...
